Streaming giants gear up for year-end recaps

All three major streaming platforms are gearing up for their popular year-end recaps, meeting the growing demand from consumers and listeners eager to revisit their year in music and content.

Apple announced on Tuesday that it’s rolling out Apple Music Replay, its answer to Spotify’s hugely popular Wrapped feature. Replay gives Apple Music users a personalized look back at their year in listening, spotlighting their most-streamed songs, artists, and albums.

Meanwhile, Spotify is preparing to drop its annual 2025 Wrapped, urging users to update their app ahead of the release. “Get the updated app to experience 2025 Wrapped at its best,” the company stated on its website. Over the years, Wrapped has become a cultural phenomenon and a social-media staple, with millions sharing their top tracks and artists each December.

Not staying out of the race, YouTube has launched its first-ever Year in Recap, offering users a personalized breakdown of the videos they watched over the past year. The recap highlights top interests, most-viewed content, and the creators viewers spent the most time watching.

As the popularity of these year-end rundowns grows, streaming giants are recognizing just how important they’ve become to consumers - and in the process, they’re pushing themselves to innovate and outdo each other with richer, more personalized experiences.
