Jamaican star Skillibeng takes a daring leap into the global music with purely hip hop project, sampling the Ye's production beat and collab with American rappers
Skillibeng paving his Way for global impact
Skillibeng dropped his new project, "Prodigy Nonstop", in celebration of his 28th birthday. Staying true to his versatile approach, the Eastsyde deejay continues to embrace song-heavy projects under RCA Records, where he has been signed since 2022.
This latest release reflects Skillibeng's hard work and dedication, steering away from being boxed into a purely dancehall identity. Instead, 'Prodigy Nonstop' leans heavily into hip-hop, showcasing his ability to blend genres seamlessly.
One standout track is "2025," which samples American rapper Playboi Carti's hit "2024." Using the same beat, originally produced by Ye (formerly Kanye West), Ojivolta, and EarlOnTheBeat, Skillibeng delivers his unique twist. The original song amassed over 64 million views on YouTube, and Skillibeng aims to replicate some of that success with his version.
The project launches with visuals for "Kingston Drill" and "Drill Freestyle," both highlighting Skillibeng’s recent foray into drill music, a genre currently dominating global rap scenes.
Additionally, the St. Thomas native rapper collaborated with LA-based rapper ppcocaine on "Dream Come True" and Miami trap artist Scale Baby on "La Family," further emphasizing his focus on the American market.
With Prodigy Nonstop, Skillibeng cements his position as a global talent, blending dancehall roots with a hip-hop-forward direction, a strategic move to solidify his presence on the international stage.
