Atlanta-based dancehall recording artist Willy is dropping his "Echoes of You" EP on Friday, March 14. The eight-track project explores themes of heartbreak, distrust, love at first sight, friendships, and confusion.
With contributions from Mappy of NSG Music, Mixedbytrap, and Khxos among others, Willy describes the EP as a culturally diverse body of work. "They should expect a project that takes them through various emotions—a project that embodies love but also heartbreak," he shared.
Speaking on the EP’s title, the artist explained: “Echoes of You is a metaphor, basically saying that I’m the way I am because of you and what you put me through, so I am a reflection of that.”
He further elaborated on the emotions he hopes listeners will connect with: “I want this project to resonate with anyone who has ever felt alone, misled, or like love is a lost hope. Even through all of that, you will find what you're searching for in the end.”
”Echoes of You is a metaphor, basically saying that I’m the way I am because of you and what you put me through, so I am a reflection of that.”
While influenced by dancehall and hip-hop artists like Kranium, PartyNextDoor, and Fetty Wap, Willy embraces the challenge of pushing dancehall in a market dominated by hip-hop and trap. He shared his perspective: "Because I infuse both styles, I’m able to capture all angles. Everyone loves our culture and wants to tap into it on any level—it’s the best of both worlds."
With Atlanta’s Caribbean community being so vibrant, Willy sees it as a key factor in pushing his music forward. "We’ve always been tapped into the Caribbean culture and party scene in Atlanta. Once they found out I was doing music, it’s been nothing but love. There’s still more work to do, but it’s a work in progress."
Looking ahead, Willy is determined to make his mark in dancehall. "My ultimate goal in dancehall is to carve out my own lane—cementing that, even though I wasn’t born in Jamaica, I can still be respected around the culture as an artist," he concluded.
Willy will host a listening party for his "Echoes of You" EP at 410 Studio in Atlanta on Friday, March 14, with free admission for attendees.
