Aston Villa takes a two-goal advantage back to Villa Park after defeating Club Brugge 3-1 in the first leg of their Champions League playoff.
Reggae Boy Leon Bailey opened the scoring just two minutes in for the Villans, powerfully smashing a loose ball into the net after Tyrone Mings directed it into his path. With the goal, Bailey joined former Reggae Boyz defender Wes Morgan as the only Jamaican-born players to score in the UEFA Champions League.
Brugge responded quickly, leveling the game in the 12th minute through Maxim De Cuyper. However, Villa regained the lead with just eight minutes remaining when Morgan Rogers' low cross forced an own goal from Brugge’s Brandon Mechele, who inadvertently deflected the ball past Simon Mignolet.
Marco Asensio sealed the win late on, giving Villa a strong advantage heading into the second leg at Villa Park.
