The latest live music series in Kingston, Soundcheck, known as "The Live Pulse of the Culture," continues to thrive with monthly stage shows showcasing the hottest new generation in dancehall.
Last Thursday at Dubwise Café, rising dancehall star Bayka, born Romario Billings, electrified the crowd with a dynamic live band performance that seamlessly blended gyal vibes with hardcore tunes for the thugs. The massive female turnout was especially captivated by Bayka's setlist, featuring hits like "Nice To Meet You," "Mob Style," "Gracias," "More and More," "Mobster," and more.
Known for his distinctive voice and creative melodies, the deejay also thrilled the crowd with a brief but electrifying set by dancehall star Govana, sending the place into a frenzy. Adding a personal touch to the night, Bayka's mother watched her son perform and later shared proud, special moments backstage.
"We’re committed to revitalising the dancehall scene by giving fans an intimate, up-close experience with their favourite rising stars of the genre. Sound Check is all about celebrating authentic Jamaican music culture and creating a platform where new talent can shine and show their versatility", expressed the Soundcheck team.
This stage show, part of a monthly series of events led by event and content producer Carleene Samuels, alongside Cheraine Marshall, Abigail Rowe, and Lauren Watkis, consistently features live band performances. This month includes two events, with the next staging set for August 22, featuring Stalk Ashley ahead of her 'Stalky the Bratt' project release later this month.
