Becomes one of the top-grossing movies at the box offices
The "Bob Marley: One Love" movie has become the fifth highest-grossing musician biopic in the history of the domestic box office, as reported by boxofficemojo.com. In its eighth week at the box office, "Bob Marley: One Love" earned $607,000, surpassing the Elton John biopic "Rocketman" from 2019.
Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir as the iconic reggae legend Bob Marley, the film has amassed a total gross of $96.6 million in the United States and Canada as of Sunday, April 7.
Comparatively, "Rocketman" garnered $96.4 million throughout its theatrical run. Both Marley and Elton John rose to prominence during the 1970s. Currently, the top three highest-grossing musical biopics include "Elvis," the biographical portrayal of Elvis Presley's life which earned $151 million, "Straight Outta Compton," directed by F. Gary Gray in 2015, chronicling the ascent and descent of N.W.A and its members.
Currently the top-grossing "Bohemian Rhapsody," a depiction of the rise of Queen and frontman Freddie Mercury, which amassed over $216 million at the U.S. box office alone.
