Capleton mourns the death of his longtime manager Claudette Kemp

The dancehall artiste in a farewell message to his manager of more than two decades who passed away: "She was like my second mother"

Claudette Kemp, the longtime manager of dancehall/reggae artiste Capleton has died. Kemp who managed the career of Capleton for over two decades has died after an illness.


King Shango, as he is more popularly referred to, paid tribute to her in a post on his Instagram page. “Today is one of the hardest days of my life as I grieve the loss of my 2nd mom, great friend & 1 of the best managers “Mrs. Claudette Kemp”, he captioned. “We initially signed a 1 year management agreement June 2002. She was very intelligent, supportive, loyal with a 43+ year music career and managed me for 21+ years. We were very close and people called me her son”, he added.


“The prophet” also mentioned that Mrs. Kemp operated his annual charity event, "A St Mary Mi Come From", and also supportive to my family and friends too and concluded by saying that he could always rely on her. “Sigh. She will be missed”, said Judith-Ann Bodley from the Burke-Bodley assocation and Co-Director/CEO Island Music Conference.

Miss Kemp was a well-respected personality in Jamaica’s music industry, in fact prior to Capleton, she also guided Beres Hammond’s career.
