The Island Music Conference Highlighted dancehall stars Teejay and Masicka's insights on global collaborations and record deals
Masicka highlights challenges of crossing Over as an artist from the Caribbean
The annual Island Music Conference held at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston featured current front-runners Teejay and Masicka, both well received on the final two panels on Thursday February 22nd.
On the panel; “Music is a mission: Stay Woke”, which also included international acts Mya and Kes, Teejay identified the importance of collaboration with international acts as a way of bridging the gap between local and global audiences. He went on to comment on the impact of the remix of his mega-hit single ‘Drift’ with Nigerian superstar Davido in Nigeria alone with its current population of over 200 million people.
On the final panel for the day - “So You Want A Record Deal”, entered the highly anticipated artiste, Masicka along with US-label executives Steve Greenberg and David Melhabo. Masicka spoke about his current deal with Powerhouse US-Based label Def Jam and highlighted one of his pre requirements; being able to maintain his creative process to producing his music.
