Davo, Blending genres and sounds, reunites with Tory Lanez

Recording artist, producer, and actor Davo is no newcomer to the scene. He launched his career in 2020 and quickly made waves with standout productions and a featured role in the Bob Marley: One Love movie.

He has collaborated with several multi-platinum hip hop heavyweights, including Rick Ross, Fabolous, Rich the Kid, and his longtime friend and collaborator, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez.

Their latest joint effort, "2 Shot Gya"l, is already generating buzz across social media, earning co-signs from dancehall icon Bounty Killer.

"Tory’s not just a collaborator, he’s been family in this music thing.”

"The link-up with Tory was organic. We had mutual respect, and both of us share roots in Caribbean culture, so it made sense to tap into something that felt authentic,” Davo shared. “When the idea for 2 Shot Gyal came up, he hit me back like, ‘This the one.’ We weren’t chasing a sound—we were building a moment. The chemistry was there instantly.”

Reflecting on his longtime bond with Tory Lanez, Davo shared, “Tory’s not just a collaborator, he’s been family in this music thing. We’ve been working together for half my life, so this wasn’t just another feature. There’s real history, real respect,” he said. “We both came up pushing boundaries, experimenting, and sharpening our sounds. Tory’s one of the most fearless artists out there, and we’ve always clicked on that level.”

Speaking about the style of the track, Davo reflected on blending R&B into the dancehall landscape, “I love all genres, and even though R&B means a lot to me, my roots are here. The song is still storytelling, still melodic—those are all R&B qualities. The difference is the tempo and vibe,” he elaborated. “I’m exploring sound without limits. I want the freedom to drop something like '2 Shot Gyal 'and follow it up with other records that feel authentic to me.”

Echoing his desire to stay true to authentic Jamaican vibes, Davo emphasized how that vision shaped the visuals: “The sound is just pure dancehall energy. I wanted it to feel like a real bashment—not watered down, not forced. And you’ll see that in the visuals. It’s everything from real Jamaican dancehall culture. It’s that late-night dancehall party you never forget, with color, motion, and sensuality driving the whole story. We wanted people to feel like they were inside it.”

He further added, “The only real challenge was making sure we honored the culture. Once we locked in the energy, everything else aligned.”

“When the idea for 2 Shot Gyal came up, he hit me back like, ‘This the one.’ We weren’t chasing a sound—we were building a moment. The chemistry was there instantly.”

“This is just the beginning. I won’t say too much, but don’t be surprised if you hear us link up again soon—maybe something even bigger,” he promised. “With Us. taking flight and Ego helping me steer the vision, I’m in a space where I can deliver my art at the highest level.”
