Dancehall artist Delomar, formerly of RDX, targeting Social Media Begging Culture in a new single
Formerly RDX member, Delomar
Dancehall artist Delomar, formerly of RDX, tackles social media begging in his latest track "Taps & Roses," released under RekitRalf Music. The song critiques influencers on platforms like TikTok for exploiting followers for monetary gain, highlighting a new form of online scamming.
"Taps & Roses" is inspired by a viral video featuring a prominent male Jamaican TikTokker who claimed he would do anything for money. "That video really struck a chord with me. The blatant 'do anything for cash' approach is alarming. It's crucial to highlight this troubling trend through music and encourage a conversation on the integrity behind our social media personas," Delomar explains. "Using your platform to earn a living is one thing, but where do we draw the line? I felt compelled to voice out because we need to scrutinise and rethink this trend of extreme antics for cash."
Since its debut, "Taps & Roses" has been spinning on major stations, including SunCity FM, Irie FM, and Zip FM, receiving high praise from DJs and listeners alike. The song's candidness and forthright lyrics have resonated well, garnering acclaim for its catchy rhythm and provocative message. Despite backlash from the TikTok community, the track has stirred a significant conversation about the implications of social media influence and morality.
According to Varonis, cyber-begging and digital exploitation are growing concerns, with cybercrime costs predicted to reach $10.5 trillion globally by 2025. "Taps & Roses" by Delomar not only entertains but also raises awareness about the unsustainable nature of these social media practices.
