Historic prize money increases in the Diamond League Events
The Diamond League athletics circuit has announced that it will be increasing prize money to a historic high starting next season. The move marks offering greater financial incentives for athletes including many Jamaican athletes.
The Wanda Diamond League has announced that its general assembly has approved an increase in the prize money pot for its 16th season in 2025.
According to the press release, $500,000 will be paid out at the 14 different events on the 2025 Wanda Diamond League circuit, with a total of $2,240,000 awarded at the 2025 Diamond League final.
Prizes will range from $30,000 to $50,000 in the first 14 events and from $60,000 to $100,000 in the final, with male and female athletes receiving the same amounts across all 32 track and field disciplines.
These figures represent a significant increase from the 2024 season, where winners collected $10,000, and Diamond League final winners took home $30,000.
The finals, held at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme Diamond League meeting in Brussels this past weekend, saw two Jamaicans claim victory in their respective events. Ackeem Blake won the 100m final, while Tajay Gayle secured the top spot in the men's long jump.
