Former Manchester United and Trinidad and Tobago striker Dwight Yorke has been appointed head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago national team, succeeding Angus Eve, with the goal of leading them to the 2026 World Cup.
The 52-year-old Yorke, who won 72 caps for Trinidad and Tobago from 1989 to 2009, scored 19 goals and captained the team at the 2006 World Cup.
This appointment its Yorke's second managerial role; he previously managed the Australian A-League side Macarthur FC during the 2022-23 season. Additionally, after retiring from playing in 2009, Yorke served as Trinidad and Tobago's assistant manager during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
"I am proud and privileged to receive the honour of leading the Trinidad and Tobago national team," said Yorke. "The opportunity to work with this talented, close-knit group of players is something I look forward to.
TTrinidad and Tobago is ranked 102nd in the FIFA World Rankings. In the upcoming Concacaf Nations League, they are set to face Cuba in the quarterfinals scheduled for November 2024
The former Red Devils striker won three Premier League titles and a Champions League with Manchester United as part of their historic treble in the 1998-99 season.
