Two-time reigning Olympic 100m and 200m champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah, confirmed via her social platforms that she will miss this week’s Jamaican Olympic trials and the Paris Games due to an Achilles tendon tear.

"I went quickly to get some medical check up and to found out that I have a small tear on my Achilles tendon. Funny enough I got back home with a strong mindset to keep pushing and prepare for my national trails another shot of my third Olympics but the leg wouldn’t allow me to," Thompson-Herah shared.

"It’s a long road but I am willing to start over and keep working and to make full recovery and resume my track career," she added.

Thompson-Herah, 31, sustained the injury at the New York City Grand Prix on June 9. The world’s fastest woman flew to Germany to seek medical advice from renowned Dr. Hans Müller-Wohlfahrt after sustaining the injury.

Thompson-Herah and countryman Usain Bolt are the only sprinters to win two Olympic titles each in the 100m and 200m.
