Music producer Darren Sortie and his late brother Dane gained prominence through their collaborations with dancehall star Alkaline over the years. Following Dane's untimely passing in 2021 due to COVID-19 complications, Darren has remained dedicated to preserving his brother's legacy.

Working closely with Autobamb Records, Sortie is recognized for contributing to Alkaline's "Top Prize" album, which includes hits like "Nuh Trust Mankind," "Magic," and "Payroll." He also produced the 2023 hit "Boss," which has garnered over 16.5 million views on YouTube.

Discussing Alkaline's latest single, "Accomplishment," Darren shared insights into its creative process. "This beat came from my fellow composer D'Andre Barnes under the SartOut Records label. The initial bassline caught my attention, and the rest was about putting the pieces together," he explained. "I have an ear for different sounds and subtle ethereal melodies that I believe Alkaline connects with. I play guitar and piano, so the guitar is always a go-to instrument for us."

Sortie highlighted the unique approach to the project, emphasizing its standout qualities. "The overall sound isn’t the norm; it has instruments not usually used, which makes it stand out. We aim to keep the groove authentic while putting the feeling back into the music—something I believe is always vital," he noted.

"What Alkaline delivered was a complete surprise. I knew he would deliver, as he always does, but this song stood out by addressing topics of growth, success, and accomplishments that I can relate to," Darren expressed. "I was recently added to the Recording Academy's Grammy member Committee, which is a huge accomplishment for me, so this song became even more special and relatable."

On the song's narrative, Darren elaborated, "This song is solid as it captures so much—success and the journey that hard work pays off, no matter how long it takes. Anything that showcases growth will naturally open new levels. For me, it's just work and more work."

Speaking about working closely with Alkaline, the Westmoreland-born producer shared, "It’s always a blast. The creative process flows naturally because Alkaline knows exactly what sounds he wants and what will connect with his audience. I always find it fun and exciting to bring those sounds to life."

Reflecting on being Alkaline’s day-one producer, Darren shared, "Alkaline was the first artist to record on one of our beats when we started producing straight out of Mannings School in Westmoreland, Jamaica. We believed in him, and he believed in us. The rest was built on friendship, communication, and hard work. He took a chance with us, and we’re grateful to still be part of this journey. Much love and respect to him and his sister and manager, Kereena Beckford, who has been with us every step of the way."

Sortie resonated deeply with the responsibility of carrying his brother Dane’s mantle and preserving his legacy after his passing. "I have an obligation to fill some great shoes, as Dane was just out of this world. I try to make him proud in everything I do. Loss affects us all differently, so I send love and light to anyone coping with the hurt of losing a loved one. Currently, it's just about taking each day as it comes, spending time with family, and appreciating the people we have here in our lives. That seems to help," he shared.

When asked about transitioning into keeping Dane’s dream alive full-time, Darren reflected, "By never giving up. Music isn’t easy, but we make it look easy through our love and passion for it. It’s been 13 years of hard work and dedication. I never believed anything else would work—music was always the plan and the backup plan."

"I have an obligation to fill some great shoes, as Dane was just out of this world. I try to make him proud in everything I do".

Looking ahead, Darren expressed his dedication to new opportunities. "We're always working and open to collaborating with new talent. Fans and supporters can stay updated on our latest projects by following us @sartout.records on all platforms. Love and light. Thanks for the continuous support."
