With Lionel Messi watching from the stands due to "muscular overload," goals from Tadeo Allende in the 61st minute and Luis Suárez in the 83rd minute secured a 2-0 aggregate lead for Inter Miami against Cavalier FC in the first leg of the Round of 16 in the Concacaf Champions Cup at Chase Stadium.
Cavalier had several chances to score in the first half, even celebrating a goal that was ultimately disallowed after a lengthy VAR review just before halftime.
Tadeo Allende opened the scoring in the 61st minute with an assist from Sergio Busquets, while Luis Suárez sealed the victory in the 83rd minute. Inter Miami will carry their advantage into the second leg next week at Jamaica's National Stadium in Kingston.
As for Messi, the Argentine superstar will not be included in the squad for the second leg, with the team opting to rest him for the recently started MLS season.
