Rising sensation J’Calm discusses upcoming EP, Sean Paul collaboration, and his evolving sound in dancehall
J'calm, is set to drop his new EP soon
Rising singing sensation J’Calm is set to release his upcoming EP this September. Describing the yet-to-be-titled project as “a continuation of a self-written story, connected to but definitely different from the Niche album.”
“The EP is about themes that many young men in dancehall music don’t necessarily express through their lyrics,” J’Calm shared. “The project delves into matters of the heart — themes like soul ties, love, and lust.”
"This new work is a deeply personal and introspective project"
His sound has changed significantly, and so has his connection with his audience. “My sound has evolved beyond just being about my voice. It has evolved into becoming a connection. I think I’ve grown into a more soulful character. The Niche album has taught me a lot about myself and where I need to go. So it’s just a matter of learning about yourself more,” he reflected.
He hopes that listeners will connect with the stories he tells and find relatability and understanding within it. "This new work is a deeply personal and introspective project. It will take listeners on an emotional journey through unexpected experiences as I share another chapter of my evolving story with the world," J’Calm revealed.
J’Calm sees the remix of 'Call My Name' with dancehall icon Sean Paul, which has surpassed five million streams, as a career-defining moment. Working with Sean Paul, one of the biggest names in dancehall, is a blessing he believes will significantly impact his journey in the industry.
"Honestly, working with Sean Paul on this track has been an amazing experience. I was starstruck, but I learned a lot just by being around him. It was also an informative experience,” J’Calm shared. “Sean is a persistent performer. He has a certain level of work ethic that’s unmatched. He has told me of past experiences about working in the music industry, which gives me a different perspective on the entire game.”
While J’Calm is keeping the title of his upcoming EP under wraps, the emotion-filled project is being introduced by the single "Distance," which is currently available for pre-save on Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer, and Tidal.
At just 19 years old, J’Calm is already riding the wave of success from his debut album, Niche, released in January 2024. The 13-track album features standout songs like "Call My Name," "Excited," "Guilty," "Mrs. Danger," and "Living Young."
