Under the theme "Love Letter to Jamaica," premier Jamaican carnival band Yardmas Carnival hosted their annual launch on Sunday, marking their third launch in under two years.

Yardmas Carnival has introduced a new event to its roster this year, announcing J’Ouvert, which is scheduled for April 26.

The announcement was made during the band launch on Sunday, where Yardmas also unveiled eight stunning costumes for its 2025 series.

“This year we have amazing costumes,” said Andrew Bellamy, managing director at Yardmas. The costumes unveiled include Lost City, Jewel of the Nile, Swallowtail, Jonkano, Hibiscus, Blue Majesty, Lignum Vitae, and Rehgeh.

Costume designer for Lignum Vitae, Anna-Lisa Guthrie, shared: “So we do have two options. We have a front line option and we have a back line option, and both are interchangeable. The tops and the bottoms are interchangeable."

"The back line has an illusion mesh, so it's actually a high-waisted bottom, and the reason why I chose an illusion mesh is because I feel like it gives a sexy and confident appearance. However, it's still very covered and modest. It's just about representing everybody and what they feel most comfortable in", she elaborated on the back line design.

Discussing the color palette, Guthrie adding, "Lignum Vitae is purple, and I think I really wanted to do different tones of purple. So I had lilac, lavender, and actual purple. I just wanted to do it in a monochromatic but tasteful way.”

"I think it's a very classy design. I think it's a very elevated design and I think it feels expensive. I feel when a woman puts it on, she can step out there and feel like this is my day. She’s suppose to feel like she’s on a red carpet", she concluded.

The YardMas Carnival 2025 experience is slated to be extraordinary, with sponsorship from Campari Caribbean. The event also coincides with the launch of their website, set to go live on Monday, January 14, at 7 PM.
