Jamaica began their Copa America campaign with a 0-1 defeat to Mexico, by a fantastic strike by Gerardo Arteaga in the 69th minute. Reggae Boyz striker Michail Antonio had his goal disallowed by VAR in the 50th minute due to offside.

Mexico captain Edson Alvarez suffered a hamstring injury and was replaced by Luis Romo, casting doubt on his participation for the rest of the tournament.

This loss marks Jamaica's seventh consecutive defeat in Copa America history, with a cumulative score of 0-10 against them.

Next, Jamaica will face Ecuador, who lost 1-2 to Venezuela in their opening match. Both teams will be fighting to survive and keep their chances of advancing to the quarter-finals alive.
