Jamaica suffered their second consecutive loss in the 2024 Copa America after a 3-1 defeat to Ecuador in their Group B match at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Wednesday.

The game didn't start well for Jamaica, with an own goal by Kasey Palmer in the 13th minute giving Ecuador an early lead. Palmer later conceded a penalty, which Kendry Páez converted in the 49th minute to double the advantage over a seemingly defeated opponent. Michail Antonio from West Ham made history by scoring Jamaica's first-ever goal in Copa America in the 54th minute. However, Alan Minda secured the victory for Ecuador with a final goal.

Jamaica's hopes were dashed when Venezuela pulled off a surprising 1-0 victory over Mexico, with veteran Salomon Rondon's penalty in the 57th minute securing Venezuela's place in the quarter-finals.

Mexico and Ecuador will now compete for a quarter-final spot in the final group round on July 1st. Meanwhile, Heimir Hallgrímsson's Jamaican team will face Venezuela, trying to achieve their first point in the tournament.
