Jamaica's national stadium track is undergoing a resurfacing project
With Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track set to debut at Kingston's National Stadium from April 4-6, the venue's track is undergoing a resurfacing project. The new track will showcase the vibrant colors of the Jamaican flag—black, green, and gold—symbolizing the nation's rich track and field legacy.
While work on the track continues, Cavalier FC is set to host Lionel Messi's Inter Miami in the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 second leg next week.
Meanwhile, the Reggae Boyz are scheduled to face St. Vincent & The Grenadines in a Gold Cup qualifier, playing away on March 21 at Arnos Vale Stadium before hosting the return leg at Sabina Park on March 25. This marks the Reggae Boyz's first international match at Sabina Park since March 2018. Due to the resurfacing project at the National Stadium ahead of the Grand Slam Track, Jamaica will play at Sabina Park instead. The winner of the qualifier will advance to the Gold Cup group stage.
The Grand Slam Track, the new home for elite athletes, will feature four major events this year in Kingston, Miami, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. The competition boasts a star-studded lineup, including triple Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas, Kenny Bednarek, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Masai Russell, and Alison dos Santos, among many others.
Several top Jamaican athletes, such as Oblique Seville, Ackera Nugent, Rushell Clayton, and Roshawn Clarke, have signed for the league, while others will compete as challengers at the Kingston Slam. This includes Tokyo 2020 Olympic 110m hurdles gold medalist Hansle Parchment and British sprint star Dina Asher-Smith.
