Jamaica's Roje Stona Secured Historic Gold in Discus with Record-Breaking Throw

The 25-year-old Stona set a new Olympic record with a throw of 70.00 meters, breaking the briefly held record of Mykolas Alekna

Roje Stona has etched his name in history by winning a gold medal in the discus throw at the Paris 2024 Olympics, setting a new Olympic record of 70.00 meters, which broke Mykolas Alekna's briefly held Olympic record.


The 25-year-old Stona secured his victory with a throw that surpassed Alekna's record of 74.35 meters, set just minutes earlier. Alekna, son of former Olympic medalist and record holder Virgilijus Alekna.


Stona, a student at Arkansas University, is trained by American Ryan Crouser, a triple Olympic shot put champion.



The Spanish-town-born athlete has become the first Jamaican man to win an Olympic title in the throws.


This gold medal marks Jamaica's first at the 2024 Paris Olympics, adding to their tally of three silver and one bronze medal, bringing their total to five medals so far.
