Jubba Drops 'Survivor,' A Powerful Tale of Perseverance and Hope

2023 Magnum Top Performa winner Jubba reflects on his journey through hardship and triumph in new single produced by CATA+ and Jussbuss

Jubba resonates with Jamaicans facing life's challenge

Rising dancehall artist Tevaun “Jubba” Taylor, 2023 Magnum Top Performa winner, released his powerful single "Survivor" on September 6, 2024, across all streaming platforms. Produced by Andrew “Bandit Jack” Jackson in collaboration with Catalog+ Music Group (CATA+) and Jussbuss, the track reflects Jubba’s personal journey of survival growing up in a challenging Jamaican community

Jubba shared, “It is a song inspired by hardships faced by me as an unemployed 25-year-old in a volatile community with a dream to make music no matter what. There have been many incidents that could’ve gone badly, but I survived, and I’m still surviving.”

Emphasising his experience growing up in Gregory Park, where the dancehall deejay said, “Many young men do not make it to the end goal, heavily influenced the track. “Some switched, some lost and can’t find, some died in front of us and as much as we cry and curse, we can't change the past. It is a daily reality for so many people, and I’m proud to represent that in my music."

Since his breakout win on Magnum Top Performa in July 2023 and his performance on the Reggae Sumfest stage, Jubba has stayed true to sharing authentic stories of resilience, perseverance, hope, and ambition. "Survivor," recorded at the new Catalog+ Music Group Studios and mixed by Joshua Famous, embodies these themes, encouraging listeners to chase their dreams despite obstacles. The dancehall deejay believes many will connect with its powerful message of survival.

“The theme of this song is to never give up on your dreams, no matter what you face,” Jubba said, adding that, “even though many bad things happened, I’ve survived and will continue to survive because I want to be able to make my family live luxuriously", noted.

The accompanying music video, directed by renowned producer and video director, Keanu ‘Shot by Deth’ Gordon, presents vivid visuals depicting the tough socio-economic realities of life in Jamaica.

The single is available on major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and YouTube. The team anticipates it will resonate deeply with Jamaicans facing challenges, offering inspiration and motivation to persevere.
