The track and field world is buzzing with anticipation as the Zurich Diamond League meeting gears up for a highly anticipated rematch between two of the fastest women in the sport: World Champion Sha’Carri Richardson and Olympic Champion, rising sensation Julien Alfred. This 100m showdown, set for September 5, marks the first encounter between these sprint powerhouses since their electrifying clash at the Paris Olympics.


The 23-year-old Julien Alfred recently made history as the first Saint Lucian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, while also securing a silver medal in the 200m, further cementing her status as a rising star in track and field.


As the athletics season wraps up next week in 2 final days in Brussels, Julien Alfred shared her plans: "I'm gonna head back home. I haven't had a chance to celebrate with my country as yet, to see the youths of my country, so I really want to go back to Saint Lucia, celebrate with them. Maybe I'll go for a vacation after that."



At the Zurich meeting, several Jamaican athletes will also be competing. rising sprinter, Tia Clayton will challenge Julien Alfred and Sha’Carri Richardson in the 100m, while Olympic bronze medalist Rasheed Broadbell and Hansle Parchment will face off against 110m hurdles Olympic champion Grant Holloway once again.
