Fast-rising track star Kishane Thompson amazed the world by setting the fastest time of the year with his 9.77 seconds win in the 100m at the Jamaican National Trials in June.
This year has marked a significant improvement in his journey since the 2023 Jamaican Championships, where he effortlessly won his race in 9.91 seconds. Now, many more know his name.
The 23-year-old MVP athlete believes he has more to offer ahead of his Olympics debut in Paris. Less than two weeks ago, at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Hungary, Thompson cruised to a 9.91 seconds win, beating a strong field including world silver medallist Letsile Tebogo and two-time Olympic finalist Akani Simbine.
“Running the three rounds at this championship has helped me better understand my body and the sport. I was never short on confidence, but I believe I have much more to do as I can run way faster", he expressed. "Deep down, I look forward to some great competition and nice vibes from the top sprinters", he stated in an interview with World Athletics.
Thompson hails from the small fishing community of Mitchell Town in Clarendon, recently devastated by the powerful hurricane Beryl. As his family and fellow villagers work to rebuild their lives, they will pause for just under 10 seconds on August 4th, hoping to witness a moment of triumph that could bring positive news to their community.
