Netflix announces new series 'Starting 5' premiering October 9, featuring LeBron James alongside Tatum, Butler, Edwards, and Sabonis
Starting 5 coming this October
LeBron James is no stranger to Netflix, and starting October 9, he will headline a new series on the platform alongside four other NBA stars. Netflix announced that a new series titled "Starting 5" will debut in about a month and a half, focusing on the past season of five top players from the NBA.
In addition to LeBron, the series will follow Boston Celtics star, Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, and Domantas Sabonis, highlighting their experiences both on and off the court during the 2023/24 season. this past season marked Tatum's first career championship ring.
This isn't the only upcoming Netflix production featuring James. Last week, Netflix revealed that in 2025, they will release a series centered on the basketball tournament at the Paris Olympics. Tatum and Edwards, who also won Olympic gold medals, are expected to feature prominently in both series alongside LeBron.
This isn't Netflix's first foray into Olympic basketball either. In 2022, the platform released a documentary about the U.S. team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which saw LeBron and his teammates bring home the gold after setbacks at the World Championships and Athens 2004. LeBron played a key role in both the documentary and the team.
