Bailey claims it is "misleading information"
Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey was unexpectedly included in Jamaica's squad for the 2024 Copa America, which kicks off next week in the US. However, he declined the invitation and is still on a break from the national team.
Bailey's name appeared on the 26-man list announced by Icelandic coach Heimir Hallgrimsson. Yet, shortly after the squad list was published, Bailey took to his Instagram account, stating it was "misleading information."
The 26-year-old hasn't played for the Reggae Boyz since being suspended in March during the CONCACAF Nations League campaign for breaking curfew. Following his suspension, Bailey announced a break from the national team due to inadequate conditions.
Bailey had an impressive season in the English Premier League, scoring 14 goals in all competitions for Aston Villa, who finished fourth and secured a spot in next season's Champions League.
Jamaica will begin their Copa America campaign against Mexico on June 22 in Houston, followed by matches against Ecuador and Venezuela.
