200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo and 400m hurdles Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who broke her own world record twice this season, have been crowned Athletes of the Year by World Athletics.
Tebogo made history as the first African to win an Olympic title in the 200m, setting an African record in the process. He also anchored Botswana’s 4x400m men’s relay team to a silver medal.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone claimed the Female Track Athlete of the Year Award, beating St. Lucian sprinter and 100m Olympic gold medalist Julien Alfred, while Tebogo stood out on the men’s side.
Triple jump superstar, world record holder, and two-time Olympic gold medalist Mondo Duplantis has been named Male Field Athlete of the Year.
