Masicka Opens Up About His Hometown Influence and Career Aspirations

The dancehall star discusses the impact of Portmore, the pivotal role of his family in his development, reveals his low-key personality, and expresses his profound admiration for Bounty Killer

Jamaican dancehall star, Masicka, usually maintains a low profile, but in a recent interview with MajorStage, he offered insight into the journey of his burgeoning career.


The talented deejay, slated to drop his second album in December, spoke fondly of his hometown, Portmore, which he credits for honing his remarkable lyrical skills. "a lot of talented artistes came from Portmore. Gyptian, Vybz Kartel. a lot of lyrical artistes and that shaped how mi put together my metaphors, wordplay, and everything. Portmore represent for lyrics and all different level", he stated.



Masicka didn't stop at hometown appreciation; he also described the dancehall legend, Bounty Killer, as the one he considers with a significant influence on his career. "Bounty Killer is one of the persons mi really emulated inna the early part of my career. the drive, the aggressiveness, the sound deh, the power. mi always like that", he praised.


His family played a pivotal role in his journey, as he emphasized, "mi family, that's what drives me 100%. trying to be a better person, trying to create a better way for me family. mi fada inspired me", the artiste excitedly shared.



Despite the challenges that come with being an artiste, navigating stages and peak moments, Masicka remains grounded. "Nuh really like a crowd. I'm a really calm person, an observer person. very lowkey, as much as I love music", he revealed.


As he aspires to etch his name among the dancehall greats in history, Masicka continues to ascend alongside the dancehall's elite. "I want to become one of the greatest dancehall artistes dem. just doing what mi love. continuing in the work and making progress in the music, but just crossing over, making it big", the Portmore native concluded.
