Masicka's 'G.O.K' Wins Dancehall Album of the Year at Caribbean Music Awards

Masicka shines as Dexta Daps is honored with Performer of the Year at the 2nd Annual CAM, while Nailah Blackman took home two awards

A lively crowd gathered at King's Theater in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, for the 2nd Annual Caribbean Music Awards, where some of the biggest names in Caribbean music were honored on stage. Hosted by the Queen of Dancehall, Spice, and the King of Comedy, Majah Hype, the night was filled with emotional and unforgettable moments, with awards for Masicka and Dexta Daps stealing the show.


Dancehall superstar Masicka was awarded Dancehall Album of the Year for his sophomore masterpiece, 'Generation of Kings'. This accolade underscores Masicka’s profound impact on the dancehall scene, with Generation of Kings being celebrated for its lyrical depth, production quality, and the artist’s distinctive style that continues to resonate with fans across the Caribbean and beyond. The award was presented live by singer Tosh Alexander.



Dexta Daps was honored with the Performer of the Year (Dancehall) award for his exceptional performances and contributions over the past year. Iconic dancehall artist Shaggy won the Collaboration of the Year (Reggae) award for his track "Mood" with Kes.


Soca sensation Nailah Blackman took home two awards, winning Video of the Year (Soca) and Collaboration of the Year (Soca) for her hit single "Come Home," featuring Skinny Fabulous, who also earned the Male Artist of the Year award in the Soca category.



Reggae artist Ras-I was recognized with the Best New Artist award in the Reggae category, highlighting his rising influence in the genre.


Performances by artists like Christopher Martin, Alaine, Pressure Buss Pipe, Patrice Roberts, and Dexta Daps himself, among others, thrilled the audience at the event. The occasion was covered by major platforms, including BET, CBS, and many others.

Legendary Jamaican record producer Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor received the Producer Honors for shaping the sound of modern reggae and dancehall. "Feeling honored, feeling blessed. It's one thing fi get an award, but a next thing to get it from my people, our people, Caribbean people," said the elated Di Genius.


Bob Marley's daughter, Cedella Marley, was honored with the Legacy Award, recognized for her impact on Caribbean culture. She expressed her gratitude, saying, "I am blessed to continue my parents' legacy." Additionally, the legendary Marcia Griffiths received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Alison Hinds was celebrated with the Elite Icon Award.
