The 2024 Red Bull Culture Clash, held on June 1 and dubbed the "Battle of the Parades," showcased the best of New York City's vibrant cultural scene, with Caribbean culture emerging victorious. No Long Talk, a crew dedicated to promoting Caribbean sound globally, was crowned the winner of the 2024 Red Bull Culture Clash New York.
After a four-round battle against fellow local cultural giants — Remezcla, Papi Juice, and Eastern Standard Times — yellow streamers filled the air to signal a new champion ruling the scene. Fans blew horns, waved a sea of flags, and cheered in support as the sun set over 1 Noble Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
No Long Talk Crew enlisted an all-star team of Caribbean DJs for this year's Red Bull Culture Clash. The crew's lineup boasted former Red Bull DJ champions DJ Puffy and Jus Jay representing Barbados, Shacia Päyne, the granddaughter of reggae icon Bob Marley, Silent Addy, and Creep Chromatic & Disco Neil from Jamaica. They were joined by Travis World and Major Penny from Trinidad, Kevin Crown representing Grenada, and New York Jamaican DJ Madout, each bringing their unique flair and expertise to the competition.
The crew's preparation was meticulous and culturally rich, compiling an impressive array of dubplates from reggae and soca legends. Their collection featured tracks from Damian Marley, Stephen Marley, Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, Allison Hinds, Konshens, Capleton, Barrington Levy, Rupee, Skillibeng, and Teejay. This carefully curated selection paid homage to the roots of Caribbean music and highlighted the depth and diversity of the genre.
"Red Bull Culture Clash 2024 in NYC was definitely one of those 'this is way bigger than me' moments in my career," said Rhea Prendergast, captain of the No Long Talk crew. "It means a lot to me to have created a performance that showcased the power of a unified Caribbean unit through music in a global city like New York."
“The goal is always to showcase and push the talents and boundaries of Caribbean culture,” added Damon DeGraff, one of No Long Talk Crew's leaders, following the win. “Bringing together such an elite cast of characters to do so is the height of Caribbean excellence..”
