Obama drops his traditional summer playlist
As is tradition, former U.S. President Barack Obama has unveiled his summer playlist, featuring a diverse mix of artists from viral sensations like Tommy Richman and Paul Russell to legends like Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones, showcasing his trademark broad musical taste.
Released in tandem with his summer reading list, Obama's summer playlist, released alongside his reading list, blends current hits with timeless classics, covering genres from Afrobeats to classic rock. It features only two Jamaican artists: Skillibeng on Tyla's "Jump" featuring Gunna, and Bob Marley's iconic "Them Belly Full."
He's stirring things up with country anthems like Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” But the playlist also features few Afrobeats surprises, including Rema’s “Yayo,” Tems’ “Love Me Jeje,” along with Bonny Light Horseman’s “Old Dutch.”
Previous playlists have featured tracks like the Maytals' "Funky Kingston," J'calm's "Tempted," and the hit "Guh Down Deh" by Spice, Shaggy, and Sean Paul.
