Veteran dancehall deejay Danny English has died at the age of 54. He passed away on Thursday evening at the Kingston Public Hospital after a long battle with diabetes.

English, best known for the 2002 hit “Party Time” featuring Egg Nog, gained widespread recognition with the track, which sampled the iconic “Diwali Riddim” produced by Jamaican hitmaker Steven “Lenky” Marsden. The riddim dominated the airwaves that same year and became a staple in dancehall music.

Dancehall legend Bounty Killer paid tribute to the late artist on Instagram, writing, “I never like being the first to break sad news like this dawg but RIP.”

Born Donald Cox in Kingston, Danny English embarked on his music career as a teenager, drawing inspiration from influential artists such as Buju Banton, Shaggy, and Tuffy Melody.
