West Ham United and Reggae Boyz forward Michail Antonio was involved in a serious car accident on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The club confirmed the incident in a statement, expressing that their "thoughts and prayers" are with Antonio, his family, and friends during this time. They have pledged to provide further updates "in due course."
Later, the club issued a statement: "West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area.
Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital."
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) also shared an official statement, with Reggae Boyz head coach Steve McClaren saying, "on behalf of the entire group of players, support staff and technical staff, I would like to wish Michail a speedy recovery and prayers with him at this time"
Reports indicate that Antonio's Ferrari GTC4Lusso, valued at over £200,000, sustained significant damage in the crash, which occurred in Epping Forest, Essex. Images of the wrecked vehicle have circulated on social media, raising concerns about Antonio's condition. He was reportedly taken to the hospital, but specific details about his injuries have not been disclosed.
This incident is not Antonio's first involvement in a car accident. In December 2019, he crashed his Lamborghini Huracan into a front garden in Balham, South London, while dressed in a snowman costume. Fortunately, no one was injured in that event.
