Rygin King Arrested for Illegal Firearm Possession in New York

According to multiple sources, dancehall artiste Rygin King faces gun possession charges in New York and pleads not guilty


Rygin King to appear in Court following weapons arrest


According to multiple sources, dancehall artist Rygin has been arrested in New York on several weapons possession charges.


The deejay was allegedly charged and locked up in Rikers Island but was subsequently released on bail after an illegal firearm was discovered in the vehicle he was traveling in.


He is expected to appear in court in Queens on Friday, July 12. While the circumstances of the arrest are unclear, these charges could lead to a prison sentence of between 4-15 years under New York state law. Rygin King has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence.



Born Matthew Smith in Montego Bay, the deejay recently released his sophomore album, "Recovery," which received positive reactions and features singles with Damian "JR Gong" Marley and Chronic Law.


In 2020, he was shot in an incident in Westmoreland Parish, leaving him paralyzed. He then relocated to the USA.
