Saint Lucia Celebrates as Olympic Hero Julien Alfred Returns Home

After making history as Saint Lucia's first-ever Olympic medalist, Julien Alfred finally returned home to a hero’s welcome, greeted by thousands of ecstatic fans.


Alfred, a double Olympic medalist, received a rapturous reception at Hewanorra International Airport. Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, government officials, and members of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee were part of the official welcoming party.


An emotional Alfred, overwhelmed by the support, shared, "I don’t want to get emotional, but today I really want to give thanks."



The 23-year-old, who won gold in the 100m and silver in the 200m at the Paris Games, expressed her deep gratitude to her family, friends, village, the government, her coach Edrick Floréal, and Cuthbert 'Twatiné' Modeste for their unwavering support throughout her journey.


Saint Lucia's Prime Minister, Philip J. Pierre, has officially announced September 27th as "Julien Alfred Day," marking it as a public holiday in her honor.
