Acclaimed Jamaican reggae and dancehall legend Shaggy has received a Spotify plaque for surpassing 1 billion streams with his timeless 2000 hit single, "It Wasn't Me".


The singjay took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone, highlighting the song's enduring global appeal even 25 years after its release. With millions of copies sold and ongoing streaming success, "It Wasn’t Me" continues to solidify its place in music history.


Originally released as the lead single from Shaggy’s fifth studio album, "Hot Shot", the track features British-Jamaican singer RikRok and became a defining hit of the early 2000s.



In February 2001, it soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Shaggy’s first chart-topper in the U.S. The song also dominated the UK charts, becoming the country’s best-selling single of the year with over 1.15 million copies sold in 2001 and surpassing 1.42 million as of 2017.


"It Wasn't Me" has earned multiple certifications, including 4X platinum status in the UK with over 2.4 million units sold, 3X platinum in Australia, and platinum certifications in several other countries such as Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
