Shaggy Reflects on Bond with Sting: "The Brother I Never Knew I Needed"

Shaggy and Sting discuss working together, their friendship and more on SiriusXM's Shaggy's Boombastic radio

Shaggy and Sting discuss their unique partnership

Dancehall icon Shaggy recently joined forces with Sting for an exclusive interview with SiriusXM host Dion on Shaggy’s Boombastic Radio.

Before a live audience at SiriusXM’s studios, the legendary duo performed “Till the Morning” live for the very first time. They reflected on their collaboration for their GRAMMY-winning 2018 album 44/876, shared the story of how they first met, and explored the creative journey behind their enduring partnership.

"Sting is the brother I never know I needed. I met him the first time in 2004 when we were in Antwerp, right. And I jumped on your stage and did “Roxanne.” But we never kind of connected again until afterwards", the International dancehall and reggae icon. "Martin Kierszenbaum, who was my A&R at Interscope, and it was his A&R for years also. And Martin just thought that him working with both of us, that we would get along. And there was a song called “Don't Make Me Wait,” and Martin played for Sting and Sting came in and sang it. I think the first time when he asked me, he says, “Okay, Shaggy, produce me, produce how you want the vocals to be as it's an authentic thing for your culture.", he shared.

Both icons also shared insights on their GRAMMY-winning 2018 album 44/876. "The energy, you know, it's really just us being in the studio with two microphones, coming up with melodies and ideas, throwing little words here and there, and having fun with it. If I could say one thing about making that record, it was joy. We laughed the whole time, and that joy came through in the performance and the recording. I think that's what we both enjoy about it. And, you know, it just evolved into something special," said Shaggy.
