Shenseea, finally drops her highly anticipated album
Jamaican Dancehall superstar, Shenseea finally released her highly anticipated sophomore studio album, 'Never Gets Late Here', on Friday (May 24). This album follows her debut album Alpha, which was released in 2022.
Solidifying her position as the leading international Jamaican artist of our generation, Shenseea blends dancehall with elements of R&B and pop influences.
Boasting a lineup of top Jamaican super producers such as Di Genius, Rvssian, Dunwell, Chimney Records, Romeich Ent and Supadups, Shenseea also collaborated with Ilya Salmanzadeh. The album’s executive producer is London On Da Track.
Earlier this year, Shenseea teased her audience with several singles. In January, she dropped the Masicka and Di Genius-assisted hit single, "Hit & Run," which has garnered almost 50 million views on YouTube. In March, she followed up with "Die For You," which has already amassed 6 million views.
Then in April, she released "Neva Neva," produced by Di Genius, Supadups, and Ilya Salmanzadeh. The single features a star-studded lineup of writers, including Muni Long (Priscilla Renea), American songwriter Theron Thomas, and American-Barbadian superstar Rihanna. The song and its accompanying video have surpassed 1.5 million views. Additionally, Shenseea released "Dolla" via the Colors platform ahead of the album release.
'Never Gets Late Here' boasts impressive international collaborations. "Worked Me Out" features Nigerian Afrobeat star Wizkid, "Flava" includes American rapper Coi Leray, and "Red Flag" features Brazilian singer Anitta.
Ahead of the release, the Jamaican dancehall star shared a tantalizing trailer that has fans buzzing with excitement. In a clip posted earlier this week on May 20, Shenseea was seen riding a green dragon with a preview of her forthcoming song "NaNa" playing in the background. Social media users quickly began comparing the video to “Game of Thrones” due to its similar mythical creature motifs.
In an interview with Billboard, Shenseea described her emotions leading up to the full-length release. "I’m feeling really good. You know, I’m excited. It’s my second project. So, a little bit nervous because, you know, you set a tone with the first one,” the singer expressed. "I love timeless music. That’s the type of music that I grew up on. That’s the type of music I think that lasts and really inspires great artists to come".
