St. Elizabeth talent Solemn breaks barriers in dancehall with new projects
The internet has become a powerful tool for young talent from rural areas in Jamaica to break through and reach the heart of dancehall, which is largely centered in Kingston, Jamaica's capital.
St. Elizabeth-native Solemn is making strides on the dancehall scene, shining a light on the often-overlooked parish. He has already collaborated with some of the industry’s top producers, including Attomatic Records, Hemton Music, and Franc White of Zimi Records.
"It's an amazing feeling. My team and I are putting in the work, so it's great to see my career starting to elevate while having much more work to be done. I've always aspired to work with some of the heavyweights in dancehall, so I'm truly proud to be acknowledged by them and even have the opportunity to work with them," Solemn shared.
Solemn began releasing music a few years ago with singles like "Cyah Trust People," produced by Attomatic Records, and his reputation has continued to grow. Now, he's ready to take his career to new heights. "It’s always a joy to make new music with new talented people, but at the same time, it's frustrating because many don’t know the business side of the music," he added.
Solemn, The rising talent from Saint Elizbeth
With several unreleased projects in the pipeline, including collaborations with DJ Mac and Deth Records, Solemn’s next move will be the release of his mixtape titled SWIFF TAPE, inspired by his popular slang, "SWIFF." Fans are eagerly awaiting its release as he steadily rises in the dancehall world. "DJ Mac’s project is more of a reality vibe, something for the fans to meditate to, while Deth’s project is something special," Solemn teased.
When asked about the internet breaking barriers for artists from places like St. Elizabeth to reach the spotlight, Solemn enthusiastically responded, "It has given us a portal to connect with Kingston (which is the mecca of dancehall) and the fans easier! It is also very helpful when it comes to promotion."
As Solemn dreams of evolving his journey in the music industry, he has set his sights on working with some of the biggest names in both local and international circles. On his wish list are Jamaican stars like Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley, Masicka, and Busy Signal. Internationally, Solemn is eyeing collaborations with rappers like Young Thug, Santan Dave, Tory Lanez, and Cardi B.
The rising talent is eager to work with renowned producers such as Di Genius, Dunwell, Tuff Gong, and Chimney Records, while also aspiring to collaborate with global heavyweights like Diplo, Lyrical Lemonade, Timbaland, and Swizz Beatz. With these ambitions, Solemn continues to push the boundaries of his career and aims to leave a lasting impact on the global music scene.
