St. Lucia is set to celebrate Olympic 100m Champion Julien Alfred with a public holiday on September 27.

The day, officially named "Julien Alfred Day," will honor her historic achievements at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she secured the country’s first-ever Olympic medals — winning GOLD in the 100m and silver in the 200m. This recognition, declared by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, marks a significant moment of pride for the Caribbean island.

Originally from Castries, Alfred’s talent was discovered by her school librarian. After completing her secondary education in Jamaica, she continued her training at the University of Texas under coach Edrick Floreal.

The rising sprint star is expected to return to Saint Lucia on September 24 for a week of celebrations, culminating in her special day on the 27th, as the nation unites to celebrate her remarkable accomplishments.
