Veteran international dancehall group T.O.K. addresses global pressure and world issues in their latest track, Freedom Song, released on March 14.
Produced by Jermaine “Crawba Genius” Henry, the thought-provoking single took time to craft but came to life through a collaborative effort at Big Yard Studio with engineer Kamal.
“This project took a while to finish. Bay-C came up with the idea and concept, but Alex added what is now the hook. About 3 different times Craigy-T haffi come Big Yard and help me and Kamal with the overall arrangement of the song. Placement of the harmonies and dem ting deh. But it was worth it. This song is powerful,” Crawba Genius shared.
He added with enthusiasm, “This feel like one a mi lifetime achievements. I grew up listening to dem man yah. They were a part of the soundtrack for the teenage years of my generation. now to get to know each of their personalities is interesting. I know who to call for what. I know who is laid back, who is the organizer, who is difficult and so on”.
“Years of brotherly love. We are a family, not just a group. We’ve been through challenges, setbacks, achievements, deaths, births, wins, losses, separation, reunion—everything together,” echoed Craigy T, reflecting on T.O.K.'s enduring bond.
Originally formed in 1996, T.O.K. announced their split in 2015 but reunited in 2022. Group members Roshaun "Bay-C" Clarke, Craig "Craigy T" Thompson, and Alistaire "Alex" McCalla have remained active in the music industry, each pursuing individual careers while continuing to collaborate as a group.
