The Philadelphia Eagles crushed the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 on Sunday at the Superdome in New Orleans, earning the franchise's second Super Bowl title and denying the Chiefs what would have been a historic three-peat.
It was a near-perfect game for Philadelphia on both ends of the field. It started with Jalen Hurts, the quarterback who scored four touchdowns in the 2023 Super Bowl matchup between the teams but lost, and his teammates. Hurts, one of the best quarterbacks in the league, excelled this time with long passes that found his teammates in the right place at the right time, earning him the game's MVP award.
The Eagles' defense tormented and frustrated Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, sacking him six times and securing a pivotal interception return for a touchdown by rookie Cooper DeJean, while quarterback Jalen Hurts delivered an impressive performance, throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns.
The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans attracted a star-studded audience, including President Donald Trump, who became the first sitting U.S. president to attend the event, multi-award-winning superstar Taylor Swift, who is dating Chiefs player Travis Kelce, Jay-Z with his daughters, Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates, Paul McCartney, and many more celebrities.
The halftime show featured Kendrick Lamar's second Super Bowl appearance and his first as the headliner—stealing the show with an extraordinary performance of his colossal hit "Not Like Us."
Lamar also performed songs from his latest album, "GNX", but he included hits like "HUMBLE.," "DNA," and "Not Like Us," while SZA mesmerized the audience with their collaborative hits, including "All The Stars" and more. The evening featured guest appearances from Samuel L. Jackson and even Serena Williams, who made a surprise cameo.
Lamar censored much of his lyrics, omitting the N-word, profanity, and the word "pedophile," but notably said Drake's name while looking directly at the camera.
Following the Kansas City Chiefs' 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, quarterback Patrick Mahomes tweeted about the defeat: "I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work, try to learn, and be better for it. We will be back."
