The Lyricist from Maxfield: Abblo Dreams of Breaking Out of Jamaica's Inner City

Every year, a new collection of young players in dancehall emerges and makes their names. Here is another promising talent with a bright future

Rising talent, Pete "Abblo" Gabbidon

With the prolific growth of burgeoning artists in Jamaica, new talents emerge frequently. Hailing from the community of Maxfield in Kingston, the rising talent Abblo (given name Pete Gabbidon) is making impressive strides on the local scene, showcasing his lyrical prowess.

Supported by a team of producers and management, including the rising selector/producer DJ Antsman and Stern Chipcity from the label Loudest City Records as well as OC Music Group, Abblo has already released a mixtape titled "Bad87." Recently, he released another promising single called "Neva Cap," which debuted on Friday, June 7 via ONErpm.

Drawing inspiration from a variety of legendary sounds in music. He also draws significant influence from the American rapper NBA YoungBoy.

His style is shaped by his upbringing, experiences, and the challenges he faced growing up in the tough streets of Maxfield. He molds his vocal melodies to capture the essence of the streets, transforming them into captivating music for the ears.

The 24-year-old deejay channels his trademark energy into every single, blending post-90s hip-hop styles with beats reminiscent of Busta Rhymes. His music also incorporates the vibrant sounds of Afro-dancehall and even soca, as demonstrated in his release "Soca" from early last June. This dynamic style is evident in his previous singles such as "Skool Days," "Zimi," "Humans Vs. Monsters," and others, making his music undeniably captivating.

Although his young career has yet to peak, Antsman says, "He has the impressive talent and infectious words to succeed."

As his YouTube channel gains traction, Antsman mentions, "We are planning to release another EP in October this year, aiming for a spot on the Sting stages. We are also exploring other possible crossover opportunities, including international collaborations."
