Incarcerated Deejay's Son, Likkle Vybz, and Attorney Buchanan Share Updates on Fox 5: "His Medical Team is Very Concerned, and So Are We."

International dancehall icon Vybz Kartel has been behind bars in a Jamaican prison for over a decade. Ahead of his retrial hearing scheduled to begin on June 10, Kartel's son, Likkle Vybz, and his attorney, Isat Buchanan, spoke with FOX-5 News to share an update on the deejay's deteriorating health condition.
In a sworn medical affidavit obtained by FOX-5's reporter Lisa Evers on May 5, 2023, doctors warned that Kartel's Graves' disease and heart condition were worsening. They emphasized that without undergoing surgery soon, his condition could become fatal.
"He's in the same cell. and the conditions, we along way to getting a standard, living in a human standards", Kartel's leading Attorney, Isat Buchanan said. "in a cell, and if you can picture a brick oven because that's how those cells are built, the ventilation is next to none". Buchanan followed up by stating, “His medical team is very concerned, and so are we."
"It’s not looking great. The condition is definitely getting worse,” says Likkle Vybz. "The best thing we can do is just pray and be strong."
Kartel's son appreciated the support the family gets from fans. "It's a great feeling to know this support is there. I'd like to thank them for that."
Vybz Kartel‘s case is now set to return to the Jamaican Court of Appeals on Monday, June 10, following the UK Privy Council's decision to quash the murder convictions of him and his co-defendants.
The 47-year-old deejay shared aמ unambiguous message through his Twitter account: "From 2011 till now, if you ever know how much a dem weh did a fight me dead n gone lef me. Heart attack, stroke, cancer every ting a kill dem. As dem send it I send it back #MaroonStrength mi ancestors na let me down. Me and unuh bomboclaat yer !?"
