Since his release, Vybz Kartel has wasted no time reigniting his career. Following his historic post-prison performance, Freedom Street, the dancehall legend is entering his fourth decade in music with a clear focus on making 2025 unforgettable.
The "Comet" deejay, who turns 49 on January 7, has released a handful of songs since his return but is expected to accelerate his output in 2025. In a recent interview with Complex, Kartel revealed a collaboration with Nicki Minaj is on the horizon, alongside plans for tracks with Cardi B and Drake.
Kartel shared his thoughts on the Canadian rapper's feud with Kendrick Lamar during his recent interview, hinting at new music currently in the works with Drake. "Kendrick is a lyricist, and I am also a lyricist, so I appreciate his art. But to me, Drake gets the point across on a global scale," Kartel said, emphasizing his support for Drake's worldwide appeal.
Adding to his momentum, fans across Europe will get the chance to experience one of dancehall’s most influential figures up close, as Vybz Kartel has been announced as a headliner for the Summerjam Festival. One of Europe’s two biggest reggae concerts, the event will take place from July 4-6 in Cologne, Germany, and already boasts a stellar lineup featuring Shenseea, Beenie Man, and Etana.
This adds to his already packed 2025 schedule, which includes performances expected across the entire Caribbean.
