Vybz Kartel, strengthens Trinidad connections
Over TT$100,000 worth of merchandise and appliances were distributed to mothers and children at the St. James branch of American Stores last Friday. The event, a collaborative effort between the Help Me Help You Foundation, Jamaican superstar Vybz Kartel, the One Caribbean Unity Festival, and American Stores, marked the first-ever "Christmas Cheer" initiative, held from 1 to 3 p.m.
Help Me Help You Foundation Director, Ornella Luces, distributed food, toys, and clothing, while American Stores Director, Amir Maybodi, presented a range of appliances, both large and small, to scores of mothers and children who had gathered early.
Kartel and Partners Bring Smiles to Trinidad Families
American Stores' Managing Director, Amir Maybodi, expressed his excitement about helping so many people alongside Kartel’s contribution. "He is one of my favorite entertainers of all time, so when he agreed to partner with us to give back to the fans and the wider community, it was a no-brainer. We had already planned to do this, but teaming up made it even better," he said.
Help Me Help You Foundation Director, Ornella Luces, described the event as "a resounding success" and called on other artists and corporate partners to do more for their communities. She shared:"It made us so happy to help so many people today and to see the smiles on the children's faces while also giving some hope to their parents. We definitely want to do it again next year and hopefully for many more years to come."
Following the event, Luces reported that all contributors expressed immense satisfaction. "Kartel and his manager, TJ, both called to share their happiness about the event's success. They were glad to connect with the fans, and Kartel mentioned that his heart was warmed by the turnout he witnessed. He was pleased and elated to know he could help his people in Trinidad for Christmas and looks forward to visiting his 'second home' again soon," she said.
Kartel's connection to the people of Trinidad continues to grow, with one of his first scheduled appearances in 2025 set for Carnival Friday in Port of Spain. In February 2025, he is expected to perform alongside soca artists such as Yung Bredda and more.
